I'm part of the Design-System-Working-Group at my company. This is a team of 3 Designers and one UX Engineer. We develop, maintain and document the
design system, UI Kit and guidelines within the company.
The Design system is used by Product Designers, Engineers, Marketing and other stakeholders.
We moved our design kit from Sketch to Figma during the swap over from platforms. I helped re-create the UI Kit on figma from scratch.
Updating and aligning components across design kit, engineer component library and live site. Ensuring consistency across various locations.
Writing usage guidelines
Documenting usage, accessibility and best practices for elements within the design system.
Creating new components broken down into atoms, molecules, organisms etc.
Component and pattern
auditing
Reviewing the use of components and patterns on the live site, highlighting inconsistencies or areas of improvement and suggesting fixes.
Mapping common patterns and creating UI templates for the structure to ensure consistency, ease of use and faster engineer/designer build time.
